We're working hard to build a stronger electric infrastructure that is more resistant to power outages. Part of that effort includes inspecting our utility poles at intervals consistent with their long service lives. Over time, wooden poles can be damaged from weather and insects. By proactively inspecting and repairing poles, we can fix problems before they occur.

You may notice Duke Energy or our contractors in your neighborhood inspecting poles. The crews are working to keep our poles and grid operating so that we can continue to provide you reliable power every day. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we conduct pole inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions

In some cases a pole cannot be repaired and we need to replace it with a new one. If we replace a pole, we will either remove the old pole or place a new pole next to the old pole if other utilities such as cable or phone are still connected.

Duke Energy allows other utilities to attach their lines to our poles to minimize the number of poles needed in an area. We cannot remove the old pole until the other utilities have moved their equipment to the new pole.
