Meet four employees redefining responsible living

Meet four Duke Energy teammates who are embracing our corporate values and showcasing easy ways to make them part of a daily routine. Learn some of the ways they get around town, save energy, give back to the community and keep our environment green.

  1. Kelsey B: The E-Bike Enthusiast

    " "

Meet Kelsey, a global traveler, UNC supporter and marketing professional on our Clean Energy and Renewable team. Instead of relying on a traditional gas-dependent vehicle, Kelsey can be seen riding around town on her trusty e-bike. With this eco-friendly mode of transport, she’s not only saving on paying for gas, but also reducing her carbon footprint. Kelsey's compassion extends beyond her eco-friendly transportation choice. Along with her certified therapy dog, Coco, these two have been known to bring smiles to people at local nonprofits and nursing homes in her city.

  2. Jess M.: The Scootin’ Saver

    " "

While Jess’ day job is focused on supporting electric vehicle programs, off the job Jess can be seen zooming through her neighborhood on an electric scooter, demonstrating that sustainable travel can be convenient and stylish. When she’s not on her scooter, Jess minimizes her energy consumption by using small appliances to cook meals. Using kitchen appliances like her slow cooker, microwave and toaster oven, she reduces her overall energy usage and contributes to a greener planet. Her favorite meal to cook? Tuna melts in the toaster oven.

  3. Brendan: The Natural

    " "

Brendan, a marketing specialist who is often featured in newsletter articles, is an advocate for savings and sunshine. Living around center city, Brendan can easily get around town with a quick jog or walk – making sure to stop and breathe in the fresh air. Inside his home, he continues to let the light in. By choosing natural light over artificial lights and keeping his curtains open for warmth, he conserves energy and sees savings on his energy bill. When he’s not checking out local spots around the city and shopping locally, Brendan dedicates his time to serving as a youth mentor, instilling the values of sustainability and community engagement.

  4. Crystal Marie: The Smart Saving Environmentalist

    " "

Crystal Marie, a marketing strategist, D&I advocate and passionate composter, has turned her backyard into a vibrant vegetable garden. With the help of her composting worms and green thumb, she reduces her household food waste and her carbon footprint. She also has been known to leave bags of fresh produce on your desk in the office. Tomatoes, anyone? Inside her house, she relies on smart technology – like her smart thermostat to keep her house comfortable while conserving energy. With three young boys who keep her busy day to day, the last thing she wants to worry about is her energy bill.

Kelsey, Jess, Brendan and Crystal Marie are just four of the many employees who embody Duke Energy’s green initiatives and remind us that small, everyday actions can collectively make a significant difference in building a sustainable and more energy-efficient future. By choosing eco-friendly transportation, conserving energy, giving back to their community, and adopting green practices, their actions help encourage others to follow suit not just at work but in their homes as well.
