Power Plant Safety
Power Plant Safety
Committed to secure and efficient operations
Duke Energy owns and operates a diverse mix of regulated power plants – including hydro, coal, nuclear, natural gas, solar and battery storage.
The safety of our employees, communities and power plants is the No. 1 priority at Duke Energy. We follow federal, state and local regulations and practice continuous improvement on a daily basis to help ensure we are exceeding the industry standard for safety in our power plants.
Employee training and safety
The company ensures employees are trained on safety procedures and hazard awareness, including proper usage and care of personal protective equipment (PPE). Each generating facility holds routine safety meetings to discuss potential risks, share best practices and highlight the importance of safety.
Emergency response plans
Every power plant has emergency response plans that outline procedures for various emergencies. Our teammates are trained on emergency protocols while conducting regular drills to reinforce preparedness and familiarize themselves with their roles and responsibilities during emergencies. We also engage and train with local first responders to ensure alignment and coordination if an event occurs.
Protecting the environment
Duke Energy is a highly regulated company that must comply with numerous state and federal environmental regulations for air quality, groundwater and surface water quality, and waste management. These safeguards have been established by state and federal regulators to protect human health and the environment.
