Important Note Regarding Eligibility for the NC Solar Rebate Program:
In 2017, the North Carolina General Assembly passed comprehensive renewable energy legislation for the state. Also known as “The Competitive Energy Solutions law,” the new policy will enable Duke Energy to offer a number of new solar programs for our customers.
One of those programs will include a solar rebate program, which will help customers with the upfront cost of a solar system they install at their home or business. The program must be filed and approved by the North Carolina Utilities Commission, and is expected to be available to customers in 2018 once approved.
Below are some guidelines to help customers determine their eligibility for the program:
To qualify for the Solar Rebate program, a net energy metering customer must have installed a solar system and also have a bi-directional meter installed on or after Jan. 1, 2018. Duke Energy will treat the date at which the company installs the bi-directional meter as the installed and energized date of the system, which enables the customer to be eligible for the Solar Rebate program.
Customers will need to take specific steps to become eligible. The process will be different based on the size of your system.
Please make sure you follow the process for your system size below:
Projects less than 20 kilowatts (kW)
If you are a residential or small non-residential customer installing a net-energy metered solar energy facility at or below 20 kW nameplate capacity, a Certificate of Completion should be submitted to Duke Energy starting Jan. 1, 2018, to initiate the installation of the bi-directional meter by Duke Energy.
Projects greater than 20kW
If you are a large, nonresidential customer installing a net-energy metered solar energy facility above 20 kW nameplate capacity, you should contact your Duke Energy account manager starting Jan. 1, 2018, to request the installation of the bi-directional meter by Duke Energy.
