Linwood Transmission Line Relocation
Transmission Investments
We are committed to providing the communities we serve with dependable energy. As part of that commitment, we’re improving our electric transmission infrastructure – the backbone of our state’s energy system – powering our communities and building the smarter, cleaner energy future that customers expect.
Duke Energy is planning to relocate a section of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that is presently along Wooster Pike in Linwood, a neighborhood in Cincinnati.
Duke Energy sent a letter announcing the preferred route of the relocated line.
The study to relocate the transmission line also factors in land use, ecological and cultural resources, and the complexity of engineering and construction. This three-phase process is considered a comprehensive, fair and balanced approach toward selecting potential routes for transmission lines. We will contact property owners directly so they may take an active role in negotiations if they are affected by easement area acquisition.

Project Need
This project is part of a larger plan to rebuild the transmission line in this area – from Linwood Substation, located at 4778 Eastern Ave., and continuing north along Eastern Avenue. This project will help to improve operations of the electric system, will help reduce outages and will support the reliability of the area’s electric service. We will construct the new and rebuilt transmission line sections with steel poles. These poles require less maintenance and are more resilient to extreme weather events.Project Description
The relocated transmission line will be about 0.58 miles in length. Public input was invited as part of this project, as this planning includes the need to obtain new land rights – also known as easements – for the relocated section of transmission line. Easement area widths typically are 70 feet roadside and 100 feet if the land is not roadside. The study to relocate the transmission line also factors in land use, ecological and cultural resources, and the complexity of engineering and construction.
