Employment Tests

Finding the fit

It’s our goal to build a diverse, talented and highly capable workforce that will ensure the company’s long-term success. If you receive an email inviting you to test, please review the following information:

Test preparation

To help you prepare, we have practice tests for the CAST, POSS, MASS, TECH and SO/PD test batteries – along with answers and explanations for your review. Please note, the practice tests are shorter and will differ slightly from the real tests. In addition to the practice tests, test-taking tips are available to help you prepare for the day of the test.

No practice tests are available for the Customer Service Representative (CSR) test or Meter Reader Aptitude Battery (MRAB) test; however, you can access a description of the tests by clicking on the brochures link below.

To access EEI brochures and practice tests, please use “Reno” as the login name and “Tahoe” as the password.

Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers (VAL)

The Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers is a 65-minute assessment that measures attributes important for success in an entry-level lineworker role at Duke Energy. No practice test is available for the VAL; however, you can access a description of the test by clicking on the link below:

Next steps for qualified candidates

A recruiter and/or hiring manager will review candidates who are successful on the employment test and will contact candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process.

If you are not selected to advance, your test results will remain valid until the position requirements change.

Retake policy

If you do not meet the test requirements for a position, you must repeat the testing process described above when applying for any new position that requires a pre-employment test. You must apply to a position that requires testing in order to be invited to retake the test. Candidates may retest every 90 days.

Testing accommodations

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please inform us of any disability that you feel requires special testing arrangements. Please supply this information when you are confirming your attendance to take a test.
