Oakley Underground Line Relocation

Oakley Underground Transmission Line Relocation
Project Update
Beginning April 7, Duke Energy will resume the remaining construction on an underground electric transmission line under Madison Road in Oakley. This work is not expected to involve further digging under the road. Expect to see flaggers supporting traffic flow around the project’s two manholes during the weekday hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. We expect this final construction to take approximately three weeks.
Project Overview
The trench or tunnel that houses the underground transmission line was installed in the 1940s. Previous efforts were unsuccessful for repairing the transmission line in place. As a result, we will relocate a 0.3-mile (~1,700 feet) section of the new transmission line in another area under Madison Road to make the repairs. The transmission line is a vital component of our electric system in Greater Cincinnati.
Project Description
This work will involve excavation under Madison Road to install the new section of transmission line. The repaired transmission line will be installed in protective plastic sleeves, which are then fully encased in steel-reinforced concrete.
An application to construct, operate and maintain this project has been approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). Letters also were sent to neighboring property owners and tenants, explaining how they could participate in the process. View the copy of the application filing.
