Katie Aittola

Katie Aittola is senior vice president, enterprise strategy and insurance and chief risk officer for Duke Energy. In this role, she is responsible for enterprise strategy and risk management including market, credit, operational and strategic risk management. Additionally, she manages the company’s insurance programs and the finance program office. She assumed the chief risk officer position in December 2020 and serves as the executive sponsor for the company’s Finance Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Aittola joined Duke Energy in 2009 and spent nine years in the finance organization serving in various roles in corporate development and financial planning and analysis. In 2018, she moved to the supply chain organization where she most recently led the risk, governance and business support functions.

A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Aittola earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics with a minor in environmental studies from William Smith College and an MBA from the University of Rochester - Simon Business School.

Prior to pursuing her MBA, Aittola was an equity analyst with John S. Herold Inc., an oil and gas equity research firm.

Aittola is active in the community and volunteers with the Boys Scouts of America. Aittola and her husband, Henrik, have two daughters.
