Make a Plan

  • Review and update your emergency plan. Share it with your employees. 

  • Confirm that your employee contact information is up to date, and establish communication procedures for before and after the storm.

  • Be prepared to work with limited supplies for an extended period of time.

  • Prepare a list of necessary vendors who can provide emergency recovery services after the storm. 

  • Back up any important data and ensure you can access key systems remotely. 

  • Stock up on necessary office and storm supplies

  • Understand your business insurance coverage and have copies and customer service information readily available

  • Consider special needs of employees with disabilities/medical conditions

Additional Storm Preparedness Items & Actions

  • Battery-operated radio or TV

  • Consider a backup generation source

  • Copies of important company papers and records

  • First-aid kit

  • Flashlights/lanterns with spare batteries

  • Battery packs for laptops & cellphones

  • Coolers and containers for water

  • List of roles/responsibilities pre- and post-storm

  • Tarps, plastic bags, duct tape

  • Basic toolkit

In case you need to evacuate:

* Close your business early enough to allow employees time to secure their homes and evacuate. 
* Record a voice message informing customers that you’re closing early and when you plan to reopen.
